Nancy Hollander’s been fighting the government since she was a teenager.

In the ’60s she worked as a community organizer in Chicago, writing about the struggles of the city’s poor. She protested the Vietnam War and gave speeches about the importance of civil rights. She says her activism attracted the interest of the FBI and CIA, who kept tabs on what she was up to. In 1971, she moved to Albuquerque, where she attended law school at UNM.
Hollander is one of the nation’s leading criminal defense attorneys. The mother of one and grandmother of two helped defend Wen Ho Lee, a Taiwanese American indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing nuclear secrets for the Chinese government. Lee was eventually found innocent of all charges, save for one count of improperly handling restricted data. Hollander now faces perhaps her greatest legal challenge yet. She represents two prisoners incarcerated at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp.
Nancy Hollander has practiced criminal law for thirty years and has considerable experience defending clients charged with offenses related to terrorism and national security. For example, Ms. Hollander was one of the lawyers representing Wen Ho Lee, a scientist accused of stealing secrets about the United States nuclear arsenal for China. She handled many of the issues relating to the suppression of evidence against him and issues relating to the Special Administrative Measures to which he was subjected. She is currently lead defense counsel in United States v. Holy Land Foundation, a multi-defendant case involving allegations of material support to the Specially Designated Terrorist Organization, Hamas. That case has involved significant litigation over the use of classified evidence and foreign intelligence. Ms. Hollander also served as a consultant to the defense in the first case in Ireland charging a defendant with directing terrorism and has assisted counsel in other international cases. She has coordinated and taught training courses for criminal defense lawyers wishing to appear before the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, was the coordinator of a jury trial training project in Russia, has served as a consultant to the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam and was a founding member of the Council of the International Criminal Bar for lawyers who will appear before the ICC. Ms. Hollander is lead counsel for Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a Mauritanian man currently imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay.
Ms. Hollander is Past-President of NACDL, and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. In 2001, she was named as one of America’s top fifty women litigators by the National Law Journal. She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, the National Directory of Criminal Lawyers, New Mexico Super Lawyers and the International Who’s Who of Business Crime Lawyers. In 1987, NACDL awarded Ms. Hollander the Robert C. Heeney Award, which is the organization’s most prestigious award, given annually to the one criminal defense attorney who best exemplifies the goals and values of the association and the legal profession. Ms. Hollander is also one of the NACDL delegates to the United Nations. She has lectured in the United States and Europe on national security issues. Corruption Using The RICO Law The meaning about Corruption using the “RICOLaw” is for all illegal act or unlawful benefit also public office for personal gain or illegal act. Their are many’s forms of RICO corruption, Best know for the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act is a federal law which can be used in any illegal acts ,one may escape public eyes ,such as the “RICO LAW” for those who accepts a political appointment because, they took an oath to uphold the public trust and the American Law, but they engaged in political corruption that is why under the Federal law ‘RICO Charge can be used in any form of a criminal wrongdoing, which enable a filing of a Civil RICO action against Person or State that have engaged in Corruption. That right the RICO Crime is a felony under federal law. Both the civil and criminal areas of RICO law severely punish those found guilty of violating the law. On the criminal side of the law, those found guilty of racketeering can be fined $25,000 and/or sentenced to 20 years in prison per racketeering count. Along with these penalties, convicted individuals must forfeit all ill-gotten gains and interest in any business gained through the alleged racketeering activity. Another potential consequence of a RICO law violation is having authorities seize a defendant’s assets and the defendant potentially forfeiting property. I was denied the right to have an attorney present at the hearing and they refuse to look at paper work and the medical report, which I still have it. also I tried to show all my evidence and tried to give a testimony, but the Crime Commission never talk to me about it and they said because A minorty WAS sexually assaulted they refuse to do their job, I was from mainland,thus theythem also commit corruption under the Rico Act for people engage in unlawful Crime . Although it was intended to be used for the Mafia and others engaged in organized crime, RICO has been used to prosecute all sorts of criminal activity since its inception. At the time, Congress’ goal was to eliminate the ill-affects of organized crime on the nation’s economy. To put it bluntly, RICO was intended to destroy the Mafia. In the 1980′s, however, civil lawyers noticed section 1964(c) of the RICO Act, which allows civil claims to be brought by any person injured in their business or property by reason of a RICO violation. Any person who succeeded in establishing a civil RICO claim would automatically receive judgment in the amount of three times their actual damages and would be awarded their costs and attorneys’ fees. The financial windfall available under RICO inspired the creativity of lawyers across the nation, and by the late 1980′s, RICO was a (if not the most) commonly asserted claim in federal court. Everyone was trying to depict civil claims, such as common law fraud, product defect, and breach of contract as criminal wrongdoing, which would in turn enable the filing of a civil RICO action. to depict practically any wrongdoing or fraud. During the 1990′s, the federal courts, guided by the United States Supreme Court, engaged in a concerted effort to limit the scope of RICO in the civil context. It increases criminal penalties and allows civil claims to be pursued by injured parties against individuals, businesses or groups for actions taken as part of a criminal organization. An individual can be charged with racketeering under RICO statutes if, within a 10-year time frame.
